Presidential 2022: Valérie Pécresse promises to “bring the Kärcher out of the cellar”

This Thursday, Valérie Pécresse will hold a meeting in Cavaillon in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. He will conclude a day devoted to meeting several actors involved in the field of security, including the police. The objective of the candidate Les Républicains for the presidential election of 2022 being to impose in the public beginning this fundamental regal theme, very appreciated within his electorate.

In this sense, in an interview with Provence, Valérie Pécresse hammers home her desire to “hunt down the thugs”, of “harass them” and so “clean up the quarters”. The current president of the Ile-de-France region thus calls “to bring the Kärcher out of the cellar”. “It’s been ten years and it’s time to use it. It’s about getting the streets back in order.”, she adds.

These words of Valérie Pécresse clearly resonate with those made by Nicolas Sarkozy, then Minister of the Interior in May 2005. “As of tomorrow, we will clean up the city at the Kärcher. We will put the necessary staff there and the time it takes, but it will be cleaned up”, he had indicated while making a trip to La Courneuve after the death of Sid-Ahmed Hammache, an 11-year-old child killed by a bullet at the bottom of his building, victim of a brawl between two gangs.

In the eyes of the Republican candidate, “it is urgent to establish zero impunity in the neighborhoods”. For this, Valérie Pécresse intends to set up a “a policy of rapid sanctions, certain of being executed”, a truly “recovery in hand, a reconquest of territories”. Its aim is also to “put the police back on the ground, them whose working time is 40% occupied by administrative tasks”, she believes.

The introduction of minimum penalties, “the introduction of one-year sentences that cannot be reduced for any assault on a police officer or a gendarme”, or the creation of 20,000 prison places “in three or four years” and the establishment of “temporary detention centers in disused public buildings for people sentenced to short sentences”, are security responses that Valérie Pécresse wishes to put in place if he were elected President of the Republic next April.
