“It’s very bitter because we can’t make up for anything. Losing a knockout game is not good, it will keep us busy for a while,” said Thomas Tuchel after the frustrating last-minute loss to SC Freiburg in the quarterfinals of the DFB Cup. FC Bayern Munich started the Tuchel era with a convincing 4-2 win over Borussia Dortmund – but a few days later “the Tuchel effect is already over”, as they say in France. The newcomer quickly got support from sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić: “It’s bitter for all of us, but it has nothing to do with the coach.” After the game, the press still has Tuchel’s predecessor in mind, of course.
