Royals meet for the “Festival of Remembrance” – a sad detail catches the eye
With Prince William, Duchess Catherine, Prince Charles, Princess Anne and Duchess Camilla, the closest circle of the royal family greets them from the VIP box of the Royal Albert Hall.

After a one-year break due to the corona pandemic, the Windsor family was finally able to take a seat again in the royal box of the Royal Albert Hall on November 13th. The occasion was the “Festival of Remembrance”, a gala in the Royal Albert Hall that commemorates the fallen of the country. But one sad detail caught my eye immediately.
The warm smile between Prince Charles, 73, and daughter-in-law Duchess Catherine, 39, couldn’t hide the fact that it has become emptier in the royal box of the Royal Albert Hall on the occasion of the “Festival of Remembrance”. Not only Queen Elizabeth, 95, was absent from the gala this year. She had already canceled in advance because her doctors had ordered the monarch to rest due to health problems. However, Prince Andrew, 61, Prince Harry, 37, and his wife Duchess Meghan, 40, also left a gap in the Royal Box.

Just two years ago, all senior royals at the time competed to commemorate the fallen. The “Festival of Remembrance” has taken place every year since 1923 on the evening before Remembrance Sunday and brings together military and civilian artists, veterans and members of the armed forces in one place to pay homage to the victims of the wars.
In 2019, the royal family presented itself in full strength: Queen Elizabeth took her place of honor, while Prince Harry, Duchess Catherine and Prince Andrew supported the monarch alongside Prince Charles, Prince William and Co.

But in the meantime three members of the Windsor family have said goodbye to the ranks of the senior royals: Prince Andrew already at the end of November 2019 after an unfortunate BBC interview about his alleged involvement in the scandal surrounding the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, † 66, rather involuntarily to an initially provisional resignation from the front row of the Royals determined. There is now a civil lawsuit against him for sexual abuse in three cases in the United States.
Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, on the other hand, have consciously withdrawn from their royal responsibilities, live with their children Archie, 2, and Lilibet Diana in the USA and try to build several lucrative pillars there: The couple not only have a million dollar deal with them Netflix as well as with Spotify and Apple, but acts as an “Impact Partner” with the sustainable investment company Ethic.
Downsizing of the monarchy is taking its course
In London, however, heir to the throne, Prince Charles, leads the remaining family at the memorial service. This year, Duchess Camilla, 74, his eldest Prince William, 39, with Catherine, Prince Edward, 57, and his wife Sophie von Wessex, 56, and Prince Michael von Kent, 79, his wife Marie Christine von Reibnitz, 76, and Princess Anne, 71, with Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, 66. The Duke of Gloucester, 77, his wife Birgitte, 72, and the Duke of Kent, 86, along with Princess Alexandra, 84, completed the new presentation royal box.
Another disappointment followed on Sunday morning for the loyal supporters of the British royal family: Queen Elizabeth had to cancel her participation in the memorial service on the occasion of Remembrance Sunday. According to Buckingham Palace, the monarch had sprained her back. She very much regrets her absence.
Nothing is as it was this year in the British royal family, it seems. But the future of the monarchy also depends on change. Prince Charles has been planning to streamline the royal family for some time. The current pictures speak for the timely implementation of his vision.
