Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s daughter Lilibet Diana has finally been officially admitted to the royal British throne. But why did it take so long?

Prince Harry, 36, and Duchess Meghan, 39, became the parents of daughter Lilibet Diana on June 4, 2021, who was born at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Montecito, California. But it took a full seven weeks before the girl was officially announced in the order of the British throne.

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan: daughter Lilibet finally accepted into the throne

The youngest daughter of Harry and Meghan, Lilibet Diana, was only officially accepted by the palace on Monday, June 26th, on its website, at number eight in the line of succession to the British royal family. The update of the list follows after the international media were surprised and reported numerous reports about the lack of updates on the part of the palace. “You have to wonder why the palace took so long,” ITV’s Chris Ship said on the Royal Rata podcast. “All they had to do is hit the paragraph key on the keyboard and type in another number.” Two-year-old Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, Lilibet’s brother, was inducted seventh behind his father just two weeks after he was born in 2019. Lilibet’s placement after her brother had initially been occupied by Prince Andrew, 61, before the official list was updated.

Lilibet Diana is eighth in line to the British throne

The Royal Official Website. UK has now been updated to show Lilibet eighth in line to the British throne. This is one place behind her big brother Archie, 2, and two behind Prince Harry, who is currently sixth on the throne of Queen Elizabeth. Lilibet’s mother, Meghan, does not appear on the list as she was not born Royal – nor were Duchess Catherine, 39, or other in-laws such as Mike Tindall, 42, and the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, 61.

Still, Lilibet’s position on the list is not set in stone: Harry and Meghan’s daughter, whose birth certificate was released on July 6, will continue to slide down the line should one of William and Kate’s children become parents in the future. Currently, Prince George, 8, Princess Charlotte, 6, and Prince Louis, 3, are third to fifth on the list, behind their father and grandfather Prince Charles, 72, who comes first and is the current heir to the British throne.
