The public is still not told how little Lilibet DianaMountbatten-Windsor’s baptism is going. The daughter of Prince Harry, 38, and Duchess Meghan, 41, turned one on June 4, 2021 and has lived with her parents and brother Archie, 3, in California since birth. There was constant speculation as to whether the baptism would take place without the British royal family in the United States or in Harry’s home country of Great Britain.

There was also speculation about the name of Lili’s godfather. Famous friends such as talk show host Oprah Winfrey, 68, TV star Gayle King, 67, and ex-tennis player Serena Williams, 41, were named but not confirmed. In the last episode of the Netflix documentary “Harry & Meghan” at least one of the godmothers was revealed: It is Harry’s and Meghan’s good friend Tyler Perry, 53. It is not known whether there are more godmothers.

The actor, director, screenwriter and film producer is extremely successful, has received awards, has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and is not only one of the most influential but also one of the few billionaire stars in the USA. He did this, among other things, through his comedic role as Mabel “Madea” Earlene Simmons, through his participation in numerous film and television productions and plays as well as through the opening of his own film studio, the “Tyler Perry Studios”.

Tyler Perry also has his say in the documentary. He and Meghan talk about their deep friendship and how Tyler’s sponsorship of Lili came about. “When I started to have success, some members of my family changed, I know how painful and terrible that can be, I felt for her,” says Tyler, explaining why he sought contact with Meghan in 2018.

The Duchess describes the time as follows: “That’s when Tyler came into my life. I didn’t know him. Before the wedding he wrote in a letter that he was praying for me and if I ever needed anything he would be there. The months went by “Then one day in Canada I called him. Finally I spoke to him after all these years, for the first time. I was devastated. I cried. Sometimes it’s easier to open up to someone who doesn’t know about the situation. That’s how I felt with Tyler.”

When Harry and Meghan then fled Great Britain after retiring as high-ranking royals and their whereabouts in Canada were discovered, the two found shelter with Perry in Los Angeles for six weeks.

The father of an eight-year-old son understood Meghan’s feelings and summed up her and Harry’s situation in apt words: “I saw my mother being abused for years. I knew the clues and how it worked. A lot of people said, ‘Tyler, how can you you just compare that to your mother’s abuse?’ Meghan was abused and so was Harry.”

Tyler Perry vividly remembers the moment the Sussexes asked him to be their daughter’s godfather: “We were on the phone and we were joking around. All of a sudden she got serious. I was like, ‘What’s up?’ They said, ‘We’d like you to be Lili’s godparents.’ Me: ‘Wow.’ had to let that sink in and thought, ‘I would be very honored.’ I hung up, thought it over, called her back and said, ‘Wait, does that mean we have to fly over and be at church with the whole family? Because I don’t want to do that. Maybe we can have one here hold a little party and let it go, but if you absolutely have to do it there, that’s fine too.'”

This is how Tyler Perry became not only a friend for Harry and Meghan, but also a family member. Meghan’s friend Serena Williams explains: “They create their own family. Friends can also be family. They can create something new for themselves in the hope that eventually the families on both sides will understand that it is really love.”
