Putin orders emergency measures for evacuees from eastern Ukraine

MOSCOW (Reuters) – Vladimir Putin on Friday ordered the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry to organize the reception in southwestern Russia of residents of eastern regions of Ukraine evacuated by separatist authorities local communities, reports the RIA press agency.

The Russian president “ordered the minister to go urgently to the Rostov region to organize (…) the reception conditions, provide hot meals and all that is necessary, in particular medical care”, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov was quoted by the agency as saying.

Pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine announced on Friday their intention to evacuate civilians from the breakaway regions they rule to Russia, as shelling intensifies in the region for the second day in a row, accentuating Western fears of an imminent Russian invasion.
