Queen Elizabeth II is back from the summer break. With Prince Charles, she planted a tree on the Scottish country estate of Balmoral.

Queen Elizabeth II (95) completed her first public engagement on Friday after her two-month summer break. In Scotland, the monarch opened the official planting season in the United Kingdom together with her son Prince Charles (72). On their country estate Balmoral, the two planted a red beech, which is to herald the coming platinum anniversary of the monarch. The Queen also spent a large part of her summer vacation at Balmoral Castle.

The tree-planting campaign is part of the “Queen’s Green Canopy” (QGC) initiative, with which the 70-year reign of the monarch, who ascended the throne in 1952, is to be honored. The “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee” campaign was launched in spring. Charles is the patron of the action. Together with his mother, he already planted an oak tree on the grounds of Windsor Castle.

In Scotland there were also pupils from a neighboring primary school. Photos, which were shared among other things on the Instagram account of “Clarence House”, show the Queen and her son planting the roots, surrounded by elementary school children in school uniforms. Both royals are wearing khaki-colored outdoor jackets, Prince Charles is wearing a suit underneath and the Queen is wearing a silk headscarf.
