Queen Elizabeth II uses her late husband Prince Philip’s favorite walking stick in public. A touching gesture.

Queen Elizabeth II (95) remembered her late husband Prince Philip (1921-2021) with a subtle but touching gesture as she celebrated her 70th anniversary of the throne over the weekend. The monarch arrived at the tea party, attended by estate hands, volunteers and members of the local women’s institute in Sandringham, with a wooden walking stick that belonged to her husband.

Prince Philip’s biographer, Gyles Brandreth (73), told the Telegraph: “I recognized the cane immediately as it was always kept in a pot by the front door. It was the Duke’s cane and it is very touching that the Queen has started using it.” The distinctive cane has a curved handle carved from horn and is reportedly longer than regular walking sticks.

Rarely with a cane in public

Philip, who died last April aged 99, was last seen using a cane in public in 2013 when he returned to royal services after undergoing surgery. The Queen is rarely seen with a walking stick. She first used a cane in public last October after failing health.

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip were married from 1947 until his death on April 9, 2021.
