Quest Games Optimizer: the application soon available and it brings a lot of simplicity!

If you follow the news VR on our site or our channel Youtubeyou can’t miss our utility Oculus Quest optimizer 2.0.0 which, in its original form, was a macro usable via the utility Macrodroid. Despite the efforts of our developer, Samuel Hédouin, to make it accessible to everyone, it was still a concern for some of you who found its use a bit complex. It was enough to motivate him to dive into the coding of an Android application that wants to be ergonomic, pretty and above all very, very, very easy to use. For this, he rolled up his sleeves and thus Quest Games Optimizer V1 was born and will be online very soon.

In fact, theOculus Quest 2 is powered by a chip Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2consisting mainly of a CPU (central processor) and a GPUs (graphics processor), which gives it the power of a very high-end smartphone. In fact, if the result is still qualitative and surprising, developers are often forced to make compromises whether in terms of graphics, display frequency or other small details. On the Meta Quest and Meta Quest 2, it is possible to improve the performance via the application Side Quest, Develop Hub or manual command lines adbbut these three methods of applying these changes impose manual and laborious operations to do and redo each time the game is launched. Our app Quest Games Optimizer installs in the helmet and allows to modify the resolution of the textures (therefore the sharpness of the game), the level of performance of the CPU and GPUsas well as fixed foveal rendering (see our glossary VR). Apart from the fact that it is possible to define graphics performance profiles by 3D games and applicationsthe tool is able to apply profiles automatically thanks to a database stored in the clouds and constantly updated. This list currently contains more than a hundred game profiles. It is therefore not necessarily necessary to configure this or that game yourself if our settings suit you. the Quest Games Optimizer keeps all profiles in memory. Thereby, when the headset restarts, the profiles are still present !

Some of you may have already hacked your headphones using Side Quest, without thinking too much about the impacts on the battery, the fluidity or the performance of the headphones. We see manipulations everywhere on the Internet proposing to push the CPU/GPU fully, just like the resolution of the textures. The majority of people who offer these settings do not actually know much about it and the experience is very often degraded with a jerky game.

Our commitments to the profiles we make available in the cloud are as follows:

  • Get a higher level of sharpness than the original games offer;
  • Play intelligently on the parameters available to limit heating and battery consumption if possible;
  • Keep a constant minimum number of fps at least equal to the display frequency of the headset proposed for the game so as not to experience jerks.

By way of example, here are some games automatically optimized thanks to our system of clouds : Beat Saber, Coat of arms, Demeo, After The Fall, I Expect You To Die, Onward, Racket Fury, Robo Recall, Population: One, Mission: ISS, Walkabout Mini Golf, The Room VR, Super Hot VR, Poker Star VR, Gorilla Tag, Gorn, Yupitergrad, Moss, Forward, The Thrill Of The Fight, Resident Evil 4…

Keep in mind, however, that this manipulation does not improve the performance or sharpness of PC games VR. Indeed, for the latter, it is the graphics card of the computer which works to generate the images and send them as they are to the Meta Questwhich simply acts as a screen.

Note, this utility requires your headset to be switched in developer mode. Quest Games Optimizer will be available by this weekend and it will be downloadable on the site itch.io. Its development having already taken a lot of time and the updating of game profiles even more (each game must be tested individually in several configurations), samuel decided to ask for a rather nominal sum of $2 to get the app back.

If you haven’t taken the plunge yet, you can treat yourself to a Oculus Quest 2 at the house of Bakerthe Fnac, Darty Where Amazon for €349.99.
