Renewed tension between Russia and Ukraine causes gas prices to soar again

Volatility is making a resounding return to the gas market in Europe. After recording a new historic record at the close on Thursday at 142.765 euros, the MWh delivered to Rotterdam lost 10.70% at the opening at 135.20 euros. Despite this easing, fossil fuels are trading at levels never seen in the history of markets.

The price rebound in recent weeks is largely fueled by the geopolitical crisis between the European Union and Russia over Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin has placed a number of soldiers on the Ukrainian border in preparation for a possible invasion.
