Roselyne Bachelot lost "half of her income" by becoming minister: Femme Actuelle Le MAG

She had sworn not to do politics again, and yet. Roselyne Bachelot was appointed Minister of Culture on July 6, 2020, to the astonishment of the French. With Éric Dupond-Moretti, it is one of the surprises of the reshuffle orchestrated by Emmanuel Macron after appointing Jean Castex Prime Minister. In an interview with JDD dated July 19, 2020, Pierre Bachelot's mother explained why accepting to become a minister was not a matter of interest. "No one can say that I serve my interests by accepting this post in such a terrible context", she first declared before discussing an often taboo subject, her salary: "I still lose half of my income in this business". Knowing that the salary of a minister is fixed at 10,136 euros gross per month.

Culture: a sector in crisis

Roselyne Bachelot describes the very specific context of the coronavirus epidemic and the confinement which has forced the majority of players in the field of culture to take a break. "The disaster is financial, but it is also psychological, comments the Minister. An actor who no longer plays, a director who no longer creates, a singer without an audience, these are terrible human situations ". Barely arrived at the government of Jean Castex, Roselyne Bachelot had to make do with a catastrophic event: the fire of the cathedral of Nantes. On July 18, 2020, the Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul cathedral caught fire in the early morning. The minister went there. An investigation was opened for arson. "The investigation is opened on the basis of the findings, after the discovery of three outbreaks of fire spaced from each other (…) at the level of the great organ, to the right and to the left of the nave ", announced the public prosecutor of Nantes, Pierre Sennès.
