Rumors about the iPhone 14 camera: is Apple going with the trend?

There are new rumors about the iPhone 14. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is back on the scene, claiming that the new iPhone will get a 48-megapixel camera, with a periscope lens to be added as early as 2023. This claim is based on a research report by the investment firm TF International Securities.

  • Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suspects that the iPhone 14 will have a 48-megapixel camera
  • A periscope lens is to be used as early as 2023 in order to improve the optical zoom even further.
  • Kuo relies on a report by TF International Securities but does not disclose any other information.

According to a report by TF International Securities, Largan Precision’s value will increase significantly over the next few years due to the better camera lenses to be used in the upcoming iPhones. The Taiwanese manufacturer is considered the main supplier for the camera lenses in iPhones, which Kuo supports his statement. First of all, however, it should be said that the analyst does not give out any other information, which makes the rumor seem very vague overall.

In the coming year, the AR / VR headset from Apple will also appear in addition to the new iPhone. In order to be able to use the headset optimally, it would be an advantage if the smartphones from the American manufacturer could deliver videos in a suitable resolution. The analyst claims that the smartphones could take 8K recordings in the near future. These ultra-high resolutions will already be supported by some smartphones in 2021 – displays with 8K resolution are still extremely rare.

With binning and periscope lens for better images

Not long ago, Kuo claimed that a 48-megapixel lens will be found in the new iPhone. In addition, there is talk of a 12-megapixel camera, which could be an indication that Apple is now also daring the step towards “pixel binning”. This process describes the grouping of neighboring picture elements in digital cameras. Through this process, many smartphones achieve a higher sensitivity to light and collect more information for computational photography.

To fuel the rumor even further, Kuo also claims that a periscope lens will be used in 2023. These serve to improve the optical zoom by means of a curvature, whereby the iPhone could zoom in even closer without having to accept a loss of image quality.

It remains, however, that this is a rumor. Kuo only bases his statement on a report and does not provide any other details. Accordingly, it remains to be seen until the new iPhone is presented in the coming year or there will be actual leaks about Apple’s new flagship.
