Salesforce boss in “So techt Germany”: “Can’t rely on governments”

Don’t mess, but clump, is the motto of Salesforce. That is why Germany boss Schreiner formulated the courageous goal in 2019 to overtake SAP and become the market leader in the German software sector. A bold statement that he would no longer formulate today.

Joachim Schreiner admits that he still has “a lot of work” to do in Germany. In 2019 he set the goal of becoming the market leader in the German software sector with Salesforce. A bold statement in the country of SAP, which he “wouldn’t do like that anymore”, as the Salesforce Germany boss tells in the new episode of the ntv podcast “So techt Germany”. Because back then it still looked as if SAP and Salesforce were in competition. It is now clear that both companies serve different areas: SAP has expertise in the back office and resource management, and Salesforce in the front office, according to Schreiner’s analysis.

“Digitization and sustainability have picked up speed,” says Salesforce boss Schreiner.

There the manager wants to make life easier for the customer and “maybe even make him a fan”. This doesn’t require acquisitions, but rather curiosity, explains Schreiner. He is at least once a week as a guest at young companies to see “how we can advance a topic”.

A company like Celonis can help streamline processes, says Schreiner, who has now been with Salesforce for 15 years. If the customer needs happy employees, you can get help from startups like Personio.

“Medium-sized companies generally think sustainably”

And digitization? It’s a matter for the boss, said Schreiner in 2018. He still stands by this statement today, even if many in Germany see it differently. “Digitization and sustainability have picked up speed,” believes the Salesforce boss. A lot had arrived. For example, sustainability plays in the hand of German medium-sized companies. “The medium-sized company basically thinks sustainably and therefore long-term,” says Schreiner. Three years ago, certainly not everyone was there. “There are definitely more today.”

However, he sees many more trends in the future. Sustainability is not just about the carbon footprint. “We talk about diversity, the right to education,” explains Schreiner. These issues must be brought into the companies and “they must also take responsibility for them” because we “cannot rely on governments”. “Governments can stop people at the border, but not a tweet,” he said some time ago.

In the new episode of “So techt Germany, Joachim Schreiner tells how he sees work in the future, why artificial intelligence is only there for those who don’t have their own and what the” Chief Ethics Officer “at Salesforce does “.
