That’s it, Samsung has formalized the long-awaited Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus, its new high-end series for the year 2022. Differences, similarities, here is a complete update on the two new cheapest flagships in the range.

Welcome to the Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus, which were the subject of a complete and official presentation during the Unpacked event on Wednesday February 9, 2022. So certainly, the surprise effect was reduced to nothing following the countless leaks observed in recent months, but that does not prevent us from making a full point – the Galaxy Tab S8, S8 + and S8 Ultra have also been revealed.

Lots of similarities
The Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus share many technical elements, when the Ultra version, also introduced during the conference, stands out with a really more advanced product sheet. So let’s start with all the common points that can be seen between the two more affordable versions:
- Screen: AMOLED, FHD+, 120Hz adaptive rate (from 10 to 120Hz);
- Corning Gorillas Glass Victus+ front and back;
- Processor: Exynos 2200 engraved in 4 nm;
- Camera :
- 50-megapixel main sensor (f/1.8)
- 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle (120° FOV, f/2.2)
- 10-megapixel x3 telephoto lens (f/2.4)
- 10 megapixel front lens (2.2)
- Software: Android 12 with One UI 4.1;
- 15W wireless charging;
- Network: 5G, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC;
- IP68: protection against dust and water (1.5 meters deep for 30 minutes);
- Fingerprint sensor under the screen;
- Colours: Phantom Black, Phantom White, Green and Pink;
- Exclusive colors on Samsung: Sky blue, Red and gray.
The pair also benefits from a better algorithm to maximize the contrast of the display: this technology thus gives the impression of boosting the brightness of the screen. Samsung has also designed a more robust aluminum chassis, and has placed the borders in the same boat in terms of dimensions: they are equal, even at the level of the chin.
So much for the main similarities. But inevitably, each model stands out on certain points to on the one hand pull the price down (S22), and on the other slightly inflate the note (S22+). For example, the screen size of the first reaches 6.1 inches, against 6.6 inches for the second.
Thin phones
Here, the diagonal of the Galaxy S22 would almost make it a compact smartphone. We observe a real gap with the Galaxy S22 Plus, which seems more suited to content consumption, when its little brother should give pride of place to comfort and handling. This difference could tip the balance one way or the other depending on your purchasing criteria.
Such a large difference obviously implies unequal dimensions: 70.6 x 146 x 7.6 mm and 168 grams on the scale for the Galaxy S22, against 75.8 x 157.4 x 7.6 mm for a weight of 196 grams on the side of the S22 Plus. In any case, we are dealing here with really thin smartphones.

It is also expected that the screen of the Galaxy S22 Plus will enjoy a better light peak (1750 cd / m²) compared to the Galaxy S22 (1350 cd / m²). We will confirm all this after our technical tests.
Last but not least, fast charging: count on a 25W charger for the smaller phone, against a more decent 45W power opposite. But beware: no cables or blocks are provided in the box. These accessories are sold separately on the manufacturer’s official website.
Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus price and availability
The Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus are already available for pre-order and will remain so until March 10. Indeed, the two phones are planned for a slightly later marketing than the S22 Ultra. You can find them in commerce from March 11, 2022.
