Scream 7: Neve Campbell finally back in the horror franchise

Sidney Prescott will face Ghostface again. Neve Campbell announced on Instagram that she would once again be in the casting of the slasher franchise Scream. This Scream 7 will also be directed by Kevin Williamson, the screenwriter of the very first film in the saga.

Back to basics

Remember: the character of Sidney Prescott played by Neve Campbell fought the killer nicknamed Ghostface throughout the horror saga: in the first Scream (1996), then Scream 2 (1997), Scream 3 (2000) and Scream 4 (2011).

The last time the actress appeared in a film in the franchise dates back to 2022, during the reboot of the saga. But Neve Campbell had been ousted from the adventure at the time of Scream VI (2023), not having been able to find a financial agreement with the production.

The actress then made it known that she would be willing to return to the franchise for a salary corresponding to her expectations. We don’t know what amount she was offered but obviously things went well this time because Campbell explained on Instagram that she was “happy and proud” to announce that he had been asked “in the most respectful way possible to bring Sidney back to the screen.”

Neve Campbell won’t be the only franchise veteran participating in this Scream 7. The actress thus specified that the film would be directed by Kevin Williamson, who is none other than the screenwriter behind the first Scream.

Scream 7which was initially to be directed by Christopher Landon, will thus be the first film in the saga directed by Williamson, who also commented on the news on Instagram:

“It’s been almost 30 years since my very first screenplay, Scream, was directed by the legendary Wes Craven. I could never have predicted what he would become. Or that I would end up directing the seventh installment of the franchise.”

Scream 7 is written by Guy Busick (Scream (2022) And Scream VI) based on a story concocted with James Vanderbilt (also co-writer of these two previous installments of the franchise).

Chaotic beginnings

The project to return the saga for a seventh film has been talked about in recent months when the production company, Spyglass Media, cut ties with the star of Scream (2022) And Scream VI Melissa Barrera, following comments deemed anti-Semitic on the conflict between Israel and Hamas, and posted by the actress on Instagram.

We then learned that the popular actress Jenna Ortega (Wednesday) would also not return to the franchise due to scheduling conflicts, and that director Christopher Landon would no longer helm the feature film, which he then described as “a dream job turned into a nightmare.”

All this did not bode well for this Scream 7but now that Neve Campbell and Kevin Williamson are once again attached to the franchise, we can dare to hope that the film moves forward and manages to match the success of the previous part, which pocketed 168.9 million dollars at the box -world office.
