The Internet is changing, the search engine Google has been helping users find their way around since 1997. So it gives better results.

Google has been a constant of the Internet for more than 20 years, and many people rely on the search engine to find their way around the Internet. What they often do not know: The standard search does not necessarily produce the best results. With these tricks, users can find their way more precisely.

The easiest way

Even before entering the search term, Google offers the option of sorting the results according to categories such as “Web”, “Video”, “News” or “Shopping”. The filters provided provide further fine-tuning, with which, for example, only results from a certain period or in certain languages can be displayed. The filters are hidden behind the term “tools”.

That can go away, no way

If you put a plus or minus sign in front of a certain word in your search, you are telling Google that search results must either contain the term (+) or under no circumstances (-). The trick also works with multiple keywords.

Phrase search

Quotation marks help in the search for a specific text module. Be it the headline of an article or a scrap from a song text: If users know the exact words they are looking for, they will find it this way with this trick.

Browse web pages

With Google, users can search for specific addresses in a targeted manner. To do this, write “site:” and the desired website without spaces in front of the search term, for example: “site: spot-on-news.de Digital”. The function can also be combined with the phrase or plus-minus search.

Find files

For example, if you are looking for a specific PDF, Google will only spit out those thanks to the right command. To do this, type “filetype:” and the desired format in front of the search term, as with the “site:” search, you continue directly with the desired format without spaces. Example for a Powerpoint presentation or an Excel file: “filetype: PPT search term” or “filetype: XLS search term”.

Use Google services

In the old days of Google, users still had to search for certain services in order to then click through to them. Today, Google has integrated many services. For example, it is enough to google “20 kg in pounds” and the search engine reports the result in the American unit of measurement. This also works with currencies, length and time units or a normal pocket calculator.

Reverse image search

If you want to know more about a certain picture or photo, you can either do it directly in the Google image search Upload or tell Google the url of the image. Often users find the desired image in a better or even the original resolution. You can also see whether certain images are used on other pages and which ones they are.
