Second Extinction pauses major updates for two months

Launched in early access on PC at the end of 2020 then on Xbox platforms in 2021, Second Extinction welcomed more than 2 million players over the past 16 months thanks to the addition of new features, new content and the correction of numerous technical issues.

However, despite a development that seems to be going in the right direction, Systemic Reaction and Avalanche Studios Group have decided to suspend the deployment of major updates for a period of two months. to reflect on the future of online cooperative FPS.

A simple break before returning to combat?

As explained by the developers on Steam, “While we’re thrilled with how far we’ve come over the past year with our small development team, we believe Second Extinction can still be improved and we need time to assess exactly how to get there. »

“Therefore, we will use the next (two) months to step back and assess how best to unlock Second Extinction’s full potential while remaining the title we envisioned it to be when we began designing it: a Fun, crazy, and fast-paced co-op shooter with dinosaurs, interesting characters, and an amazing environment to evolve in. »

It remains to be seen whether this little break will really be beneficial to the production, hoping that it does not already sound the beginning of its end. As a reminder, Second Extinction is available on PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
