The semiconductor specialist Intel would have set its sights on Germany and the city of Dresden for its new large production site in Europe, while Italy seems set to welcome an assembly site. According to reports from Reuters, discussions are taking place between the company of Pat Gelsinger and the government of the country on an investment of around 8 billion euros for the manufacture of such a plant. Italy would thus secure nearly 10% of the 80 billion euros that Intel plans to invest over the next decade in the Old Continent, according to the agency.
In early December 2021, the firm told us that discussions between Intel executives and the heads of government of several European Union countries were still ongoing. “Intel is keen to explore the many possibilities to support the EU’s digital agenda and the semiconductor ambitions in 2030”, Intel commented. An official announcement would be imminent today.
Earlier this year, Intel France president Stéphane Nègre told us that France was well positioned to host Intel’s new “megafab”. Today, however, it would be a question of a simple R&D center.
