Sewing the poncho: According to Guido Maria Kretschmer’s instructions

Sew the autumnal poncho Jolanda

This piece made it over so many runways and is always happy to be pulled out. With the instructions we can make our poncho dream come true.

You need:

  • sewing machine
  • scissors
  • Iron. And also:
  • Outer fabric: 2.2m, about a well flowing wool mix;
  • Lining: 0.8m, either acetate or just a few scraps of cotton;
  • Fringes: about 1m, made of fake leather
  • Prefabricated piping tape: approx. 20m

That’s how it’s done

Cuts outer fabric:

  • 2x front part 2x back part
  • 2x front receipt
  • 4x rear voucher cut-out
  • 2x front sleeve covers
  • 2x back sleeve covers
  • 2x rear seam documents
  • 2x front seam documents

Sewing instructions:

  1. Close side seams and rear center seams right sides together and iron them apart, leaving the pocket bag openings open.
  2. Sew shoulder seams together right sides together, also iron them apart.
  3. Sew one pocket bag right sides together on the front and one each on the rear pocket bag slip, iron and fold inwards.
  4. Close the inside of the pocket bag along the curve.
  5. Sew the back coverings together in the rear center seam.
  6. Sew a closed back part cover onto the neckline edge of the back part right sides together and iron it apart.
  7. Sew the other closed back part cover onto the side seams of the front part cover and iron it apart again.
  8. Now sew the closed documents on the outside edges right sides together, turn over and, after ironing, topstitch close to the inside.
  9. Sew a front and a back sleeve cover together. Do the same with the lower hems.
  10. Edge the fringes between the sleeve linings and the sleeve hems.
  11. Finally, neaten all open edges on the inside with piping tape and pinpoint the receipts.
