Brandon Sanderson

Prolific science fiction and fantasy author Brandon Sanderson has broken the Kickstarter funding record for a series of four mystery books in just three days – one for each quarter of 2023.

The project has already collected more than 20 times the amount requested thanks to a well-established fan community eager to discover this project.

100,000 fans in the sun

Brandon Sanderson, notably known for having written the last three volumes of The Wheel of Time
, has been working for two years on a secret project of four books, one for each quarter of the year 2023. To succeed in this daring bet (but not impossible given his ability to chain releases) he decided to appeal to fans by launching crowdfunding on Kickstarter, asking for a million dollars to allow him to self-publish these mystery books. Mission already successful since the amount was raised in just 35 minutes… At the time of writing these lines, and with 24 days left in the campaign, more than 25 million dollars have been raised thanks to more than 100,000 contributors.

It only took three days to set this new world record on Kickstarter, previously held by the Pebble Time watch which managed to raise $20 million in 2016. Sanderson should therefore have no problem releasing his four books, of which we still know very little, except that three of them will take place in the Cosmere universe, in totally new worlds.
