Six-figure salaries, cascading resignations … Fierce talent war in consulting firms


INVESTIGATION – In the midst of a recovery, management and strategy consulting firms are lacking employees. Consultants, tired and highly courted, are leaving the sector earlier and earlier.

Never had activity been so sustained in strategy and management consulting firms. In less than a year, the sector has already managed to erase the stigma of the start of the pandemic. “In 2021, the French market regained +12% after the decline in 2020. Today, it is even above its pre-crisis level”, notes Matthieu Courtecuisse, president of the firm Sia Partners and of Syntec Conseil, the organization which represents consulting professionals in France.

In this international industry, professionals everywhere make the same observation of an unprecedented increase in the demand for assignments driven by a recovery that surprises them.. Two out of three firms say they lack manpower, according to a study. Firms are thus postponing the start of contracts already signed with their clients. 20% of them have to give up projects.

Consulting still enjoys great prestige, particularly among young people graduating from business or engineering schools…
