Skier Lisa Grill – retirement? “I enjoy skiing too much for that”

The Salzburg ski racer Lisa Grill is working on her comeback in the Bad Hofgastein rehabilitation center. She spoke to “Krone” about self-doubt, her love of sport and when she hopes to be able to start regular training again.

“The world is collapsing,” says Lisa Grill when she thinks about that fateful fall during downhill training in France five weeks ago. After more than 1000 days she returned furiously. With three race wins en suite, the Lungau native took the lead in the European Cup standings. Everything indicated that the 23-year-old should reward herself for the hardships she has experienced since February 2021. But everything turned out differently. Grill suffered tears in the outer ligament (torn out of the bone), the flexor tendon and another ligament. And since then (once again) he has only been on crutches. These are ski pole style. After all: “It’s better now and feels a bit more normal,” says Grill in an interview with the “Krone” in Bad Hofgastein.Grill: “Ups and downs” There she is working on her comeback in the rehabilitation center. However, there are no other parallels to the previous story – apart from the collaboration with fitness trainer Andi Hochwimmer. “It’s much more emotional and difficult to accept and it’s still ups and downs,” the three-time Junior Vice World Champion from 2020 gives an insight. She often asks herself why she does all this to herself. “There is actually no right answer.” She has been consulting a sports psychologist in Rif for around two years. She hadn’t had any thoughts about it before. But: “As you get older, you realize that it helps to talk to someone outside about certain things.” Grill is “very grateful” for the support of her closest confidants. Because driving is currently not possible due to the injuries, mom, sister, grandma or grandpa are taking over the shuttle services to Gastein Valley. Grill’s skiing roots run in her family. She’d rather be on skis than in kindergarten. Her parents worked, among other things, as trainers in their hometown club, USC Mariapfarr-Weißpriach-Göriach. “I just grew into it and preferred skiing outside rather than in kindergarten,” the Tamsweger remembers of her beginnings. This love has not changed to this day. Which is why Grill ultimately finds an answer to the previously unanswered question. “I just enjoy doing it too much.” Even if the world collapses. If everything goes according to plan, this world will be completely restored when preparation for the season (overseas training) begins.
