SNES-FSU files strike notice from November 2 to 7

The SNES-FSU, the majority union in secondary education, filed a strike notice in response to the lack of health measures taken to supervise the start of the school year on November 2.

Since this Friday, October 30, the French have been confined again. A health measure decided by the government to fight against the coronavirus pandemic, the number of cases of which is on the rise in France. Despite everything, this confinement will be different from the first and especially for parents. Indeed, they will not have to home school since the schools remain open.

Thus, nurseries, nursery and primary schools, colleagues and high schools, will continue to welcome students … but with a "stricter" health protocol. In particular, wearing a mask will be compulsory from the age of six in schools, Jean Castex said at a press conference. And everything will be done to avoid the mixing of students as much as possible. Ventilation measures will also be stepped up. “Our children cannot be deprived of education, education, contact with the school system for a long time. Too many consequences, too much damage ”, said Emmanuel Macron during his speech on October 28.

A reinforced protocol required

Despite everything, these details concerning the health protocol are still too vague for the Snes-FSU, the majority union in secondary education. According to them, no information has been given on the concrete measures put in place to protect both staff and students. " In the same speech, we briefly evoke a reinforced health protocol, without saying anything about the measures, and at the same time, we are told that the second wave will be harder and more deadly! (…) It is not just a matter of national education: every evening, the students and staff return to their families. It is a matter of public health ", criticized Sophie Vénétitay, deputy secretary of Snes-FSU, to the AFP.

In particular, the union is asking for more time to "Decide locally on the variations of the health protocol". In the meantime, they have announced a strike notice from November 2-7. A movement that will be put in place after the tribute paid to Samuel Paty.
