If you want to know which were the most popular games of 2021 on PlayStation consoles, Sony has just released several rankings to give us a good overview.

Sport and guns dominate

Rankings that contain few surprises as we find the usual successes of the year such as FIFA Where Call of Duty, but the categories allow you to narrow down a bit to see what the trends are. And above all, it allows us to see the differences in taste between Europe and North America.

First of all we have Most downloaded PS5 games on the PS Store :

We notice all the same that Call of Duty: Vanguard is dethroned this year by the favorite sport of each region, football at home, and basketball on the other side of the Atlantic. It is also impressive to see Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales as high, it is true that it remains one of the first choice games when it comes to a PS5. Far From Home has arguably also given a boost to sales. The biggest surprise remains all the same Kena: Bridge of Spirits which was decidedly very popular, especially in Europe.

Here then Most downloaded PS4 games on the PS Store :

In terms of VR titles, the very good musical game Beat saber remains a must even if it must be admitted that the line-up on this medium remains quite limited. We will note all the same the excellent SUPERHOT VR in 3rd place in each region.

Unsurprisingly, we find Fortnite at the top of the podium for both regions. With the acquisition of Psyonix and the switch to Free to Play of Rocket league, Epic Games ends up with a second title in the top 3. For the rest, we see a Call of Duty: Warzone still popular despite a drop in speed with Vanguard. The surprise of the year undoubtedly remains Splitgate, the FPS Portal sauce which also launched its season 0 this summer.

Knowing that the dematerialized is taking more and more importance compared to the physical market, these rankings are likely to be even more interesting in terms of data for the years to come.
