Spongebob SquarePants: Spin-off planned around Patrick Star

The popular "SpongeBob SquarePants" character Patrick Star is getting his own spin-off. Work on it should have already started.

SpongeBob's longtime friend Patrick Star gets his own show. The children's broadcaster Nickelodeon is reportedly in the process of paving the way for "The Patrick Star Show", an animated spin-off of "SpongeBob SquarePants". The US industry magazine "Deadline" reports that the negotiations are in the final stages.

In the spin-off, everything should revolve around Patrick, who is originally spoken by actor and voice actor Bill Fagerbakke (62). It is not yet known who could speak for a possible German version of the character.

This is what "The Patrick Star Show" is all about

According to the report, 13 episodes are planned for the time being. Production seems to have already started. The first sound recordings have already taken place. Behind the project is supposed to be the creative team that is also responsible for the original series. However, SpongeBob creator Stephen Hillenburg is no longer there. The American died in November 2018.

According to insiders, the new series is about Patrick, who owns his own late-night show, and his family. In the spin-off, many new characters should appear, but beloved characters from the original should celebrate guest appearances from time to time.

Nickelodeon itself has not yet commented on the matter. In 2019, station boss Brian Robbins (56) had already announced that several "SpongeBob" spin-offs were planned. Among other things, "Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years" is to be published on the American streaming service CBS All Access in 2021. The series was actually planned for summer 2020, but work has been delayed due to the Corona crisis.
