Spotify is currently working on a feature called Your Offline Mix. This could well save the (musical) life of many people when the internet connection is lacking.

A mix of recently played music for when the vibe is there, but the connection isn’t. »

A welcome feature (for once)

Whether it’s the invasive addition of video clips or the not fully convincing intelligent shuffle mode, the latest features added to Spotify have not really convinced users. Let’s not even talk about the still heavy absence of Hi-Fi quality on the service. Brief. Today, Daniel Ek, the company’s CEO, revealed that Spotify is working on a feature called Your Offline Mix.

It is obviously a playlist generated and automatically downloaded to the device. This is made up of tracks recently listened to by the subscriber, the objective being to be able to continue enjoying their favorite music of the moment even without an internet connection. The details remain light for the moment (options? number of tracks? frequency of the update of the playlist?), but the screenshot indicates as an example a playlist of 3 h 31.

It’s of course been possible for years to download specific playlists or tracks locally from Spotify, but here it should allow you to automatically pick up your recent music obsessions without worrying about it.

No release date yet

Apparently Spotify has been working on this feature since mid-2020, while YouTube Music already offers something similar, dubbed Offline Mixtape. No release window has been revealed for Your Offline Mix, but with this tweet, no doubt it shouldn’t take too long.

In the meantime, as rightly suggested by The Vergean interesting alternative may be to download locally the playlist made up of your most listened to titles in 2022. It may not be fresh, but it’s a good compromise.
