  • The winner of the 16th stage of the Tour de France is Hugo Houle (Israel – Premier Tech).
  • The Canadian reached the finish in Foix after 178 kilometers solo. He takes 70 seconds and more from the competition.
  • Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) must continue to make do with the white jersey. Although he attacks Jonas Vingegaard several times in the Maillot Jaune, the Jumbo Visma pro stands his ground.

The limelight at the end of a grand tour is rarely directed at them, and yet they are indispensable for the top riders in their team: we’re talking about the helpers. Rafal Majka also has such a role. Up to the Mur de Péguère, he took over the lead work for his UAE Emirates leader Tadej Pogacar with 29 kilometers to go.

Taking the lead of the favorites group, Majka drastically increased the pace. A short time later, however, his work happened again involuntarily. Due to a technical defect, he had to get out of the pedals and out of the group.

Schnapszahl backlog remains

The top riders Vingegaard and Pogacar arrived together at the finish in Foix after 178 kilometers on the 16th stage of the Tour de France. In the overall ranking, everything remains the same, Pogacar is still 2:22 minutes behind. Pogacar’s attempts to attack had failed earlier in the stage.

Hugo Houle from Canada celebrated as stage winner in Foix. After Matteo Jorgenson (USA/Movistar), who was driving with him at the front, fell, the Canadian set off solo for his greatest career success and distanced himself from the competition by 70 seconds and more. Despite the mishap, Jorgenson showed morale and crossed the finish line in fourth place.

Now climbing again

On Wednesday we’re off to the Pyrenees: At 130 kilometers, the 17th stage is relatively short, but there’s no less than 3,368 meters in altitude to be conquered before we reach the finish line in Peyragaudes. As usual, you can watch SRF live on TV and in the sports app from 3 p.m.
