  • There are behind-the-scenes changes in Star Trek: Picard.
  • In Season 3, composer Jeff Russo is swapped out.
  • The aim is to bring the music as close as possible to “The Next Century”.

Fans are currently waiting for “Star Trek: Picard” season 3. The final season of the sci-fi series starts on February 17, 2023 on Amazon Prime Video and will not only feature the entire Enterprise crew from “Starship Enterprise – The Next Century” bring back, but also the classic Trek feeling of the iconic 80s series.

To accomplish this, showrunner Terry Matalas reveals that there is a behind-the-scenes change: composer Jeff Russo, who scored the first two seasons of “Picard” and all seasons of “Star Trek: Discovery,” as well as the theme of ” Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” composed, will be exchanged!

In an interview with the US magazine Den of Geek, he reveals that the composers Stephen Barton and Frederik Wiedmann will take over this post and will be based on the classic “Star Trek” composers such as Jerry Goldsmith and James Horner.

I love the old next gen music. […] And music is incredibly important to me. When we say that this is the last Star Trek: The Next Century film, or rather the last 10 films, because each episode is very different, then it has to sound like it. And for that we needed Stephen Barton.

But Stephen Barton couldn’t pull off the project alone: ”Later on in the season, as the story progresses, the soundtrack gets so massive that we needed help from Frederik Wiedmann, who’s also a brilliant composer.”

“I grew up listening to legends Jerry Goldsmith and James Horner. Not forgetting Dennis McCarthy and Cliff Eidelman. To all these ‘Trek’ composers there are [im Soundtrack von ‘Picard’ Staffel 3] homages,” concludes Matalas once more.

We’ll soon be able to see the soundtrack for ourselves. As already mentioned, the final season of “Star Trek: Picard” starts on February 17, 2023 in the Amazon Prime Video news program. But there are other “Star Trek” releases that you can use to while away the time!
