The latter explains that he started writing and felt more free than on Doctor Strange:
“We are finally in the heart of the matter. I am currently writing. This is very fun. I like having the freedom to do something that isn’t necessarily a sequel or a prequel. There are fewer shows and movies to consider like there was for Doctor Strange 2. So that’s good. It’s a different exercise.”
Announced in September 2019, the project is produced by Feige and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. During the announcement, Disney Co-Chairman Alan Horn said he wanted “aa new era in Star Wars storytelling“.

This film should therefore not be directly linked to previous Star Wars productions. Which would explain why the screenwriter feels more free. Indeed, if the project was connected to the other stories, the latter would have almost as many films and series (live and animated) to take into account as for the MCU.
