Steirer overlooked the locomotive – the driver was hit by the train set and killed


A 24-year-old driver was fatally injured on Wednesday morning in a collision with a multiple unit at a level crossing. He must have missed the train.

The 24-year-old from the Graz-Umgebung district drove his car on a local road from the B64 towards Winterdorf shortly before 9.25 a.m. At the level crossing there, he must have overlooked a passenger train set traveling in the direction of Weiz. There was a collision in which the 24-year-old, who was alone in the vehicle, suffered fatal injuries.

Three passengers on the train and the two railcar drivers were uninjured. The level crossing is secured by a lighting system.
