The corona vaccine from the US manufacturer Johnson & Johnson can now be used again without restriction in the USA. The temporary suspension decided about ten days ago has been lifted, the CDC health authority and the FDA announced on Friday. An advisory committee to the CDC had previously made a corresponding recommendation.
About ten days ago, the CDC and FDA decided to temporarily suspend corona vaccinations with the active ingredient from Johnson & Johnson, after six cases of cerebral vein thrombosis had been recorded in the United States.
“Excess of caution”
The exposure was recommended out of an “excess of caution,” it said. So far, more than 7.2 million doses of the vaccine, which was approved in the US at the end of February, have been injected in the US.
So far, the vaccine is the only one that only needs to be injected once to be fully effective.
Switzerland has none of it
In Switzerland, the corona vaccine from Johnson & Johnson was approved by the therapeutic products authority Swissmedic in March. But the BAG decided not to use the vaccine. “The delivery would arrive too late for us,” said BAG Vice Director Nora Kronig, explaining the decision in the Blick interview. (SDA / euc)
