KHARTOUM (Reuters) – Sudanese security forces used tear gas and stun grenades in Khartoum on Sunday to disperse demonstrators protesting the military since the October 25 coup.

Despite the reinstatement of Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok in office, protests continue in Sudan demanding the absence of any military involvement in the government.

On the occasion of the third anniversary of the overthrow of Omar al-Bashir in 2019, the demonstrators were heading towards the presidential palace. Some protesters ran into the adjacent streets in an attempt to escape the tear gas.

On Sunday morning, security forces were deployed to block bridges providing access to the Sudanese capital. The main arteries leading to the airport and to the army headquarters were also blocked by the army. Security forces and paramilitary troops were also massively deployed around the presidential palace.

Saturday evening, Abdalla Hamdok called not to threaten the stability and unity of the country so as not to weaken the Sudanese revolution.
