Sudan: UN Security Council still disagreed – look

China and Russia have called for changes to be made to a draft. After an emergency meeting of the most powerful UN body in New York on Tuesday, Security Council circles said that the two countries did not see the events in Khartoum as a coup – which other council members wanted to condemn as such. A compromise is being worked on, which could possibly be on Wednesday.

In Sudan, the highest military representative in Sudan, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, announced the disempowerment of civilian members of the government on Monday – a state of emergency was imposed across the country. Prime Minister Abdullah Hamduk, who had headed the interim government together with Al-Burhan since August 2019, was abducted. According to the UN, the military has taken control of the capital Khartoum. The airport, bridges and state television are in the hands of the armed forces and the entrances to the city are blocked.
