Many are looking to Glasgow at the moment. There, government representatives from 196 United Nations states discuss how to curb accelerated global warming. Activist Greta Thunberg (18) is also part of the party.
There is a lot of talk, a lot of discussion, and a statement is expected at the end of the talks on November 12th. The aim of the event is clear: everyone involved should understand how important the earth and the protection of our climate are.
The Youtubers MrBeast (aka Jimmy Donaldson) and Mark Rober don’t just talk, they act. Together they started an action to clean up the world’s oceans. The goal: to remove around 30 million pounds (over 13.5 million kilograms) of waste from the various oceans, rivers and beaches by January 2022. Several videos in which the two Youtubers tackle themselves have already been published and have reached an audience of millions. And the two are not alone with their project: Youtubers with millions and millions of subscribers from all over the world support and push the project with videos and share posts on Facebook, Instagram and Co.
Machine cleans sea autonomously
With the project «#TeamSeas» The entire YouTube community hopes to actually be able to do something for climate protection. The beginning of the campaign is impressive: from Friday to Tuesday, over ten million dollars were donated. This means that the organizers and aid agencies have the means to properly dispose of ten million pounds (over 4.5 million kilograms) of waste.
But that’s not all: Mark Rober, who was an engineer at NASA before starting his YouTube career, explains in his video that half of the donations will be invested in the “The Ocean Cleanup” project.
The special thing about it: The non-profit organization builds environmentally friendly machines that clean the sea automatically. These futuristic boats are said to be able to capture floating plastic around the clock. The whole thing is powered by solar energy.
20 million trees have already been planted
It’s not the first time that MrBeast and Rober are doing something good for the environment: in 2019 they launched a fundraiser with the aim of planting 20 million trees. Youtube greats from all over the world participated, donated and produced videos for it. It ended up raising more than $ 23 million, resulting in 23 million trees planted. Even two years after the campaign, teamtrees.org still receives enough donations to plant 2,600 trees every day.
