In its vehicle production and delivery report for the fourth quarter and full year, Tesla revealed that it broke all previous delivery records by shipping nearly one million vehicles in 2021.
Yesterday, Tesla revealed it delivered 308,600 electric vehicles in the fourth quarter of 2021, beating its previous record for a single quarter as well as analysts’ expectations. The automaker produced a total of 305,840 fully electric vehicles during the same period. Among these deliveries, 11,750 were for the Model S and X, while 296,850 were for the Model 3 and Y. As a reminder, in the third quarter of 2021, Tesla had sold 241,300 cars.
In the year 2021, Tesla sold a total of 936,172 vehicles, that is to say 87% more compared to the year 2020, when the American automaker had sold “only” 499,500 vehicles. As usual, the Model 3 and Y also made up the majority of deliveries throughout the year, with 936,172 deliveries, compared to 24,964 deliveries of Model S and X.
Tesla’s production could double in 2022
In 2021, production of electric cars has been hampered by the shortage of chips that hit the auto industry and even led Tesla to ship some cars without a USB port. Tesla could well double its production capacity next year if we are to believe Daniel Ives, a famous analyst at the investment company Wedbush, in particular thanks to the arrival of two new Gigafactory.
Indeed, Tesla is currently building two new Gigafactory in Berlin and Austin, and both are expected to produce their first copies as early as this year. If Tesla does manage to double its production capacity next year, that means the automaker would be able to deliver nearly 2 million electric vehicles in 2022.
Next year, Tesla will need to make sure it can fulfill big orders like the one from rental company Hertz. The company had recently ordered no less than 100,000 Model 3s, which was almost all the vehicles the automaker could manufacture in 2021. Individual orders are also likely to increase, as Tesla has added many features to the 2022 versions. of its Model 3 and Model Y.
