TESTIMONY. “I became a father despite being diagnosed with infertility after 170 chemotherapy sessions”

Suffering from aggressive cancer, this young Englishman thought he had lost his ability to become a father. Thanks to an encounter and a helping hand from fate, this lost dream was returned to him!

It was a simple ophthalmological examination carried out in 2007, at the University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW), which made it possible to diagnose a grade 3 oligodendroglioma, a brain tumor very aggressive to Jonathan Jones. It is so serious that only one hour after this visit, he must undergo a surgical intervention. The young resident of Solihull, England, has a one in three chance of staying there, but without this operation he will die within two weeks. Thanks to the hospital teams, the tumor – the size of an orange – is almost completely removed.

The oncologist then prescribes a chemotherapy and an radiotherapy six weeks to complete the reduction. Alas, fourteen years later, Jonathan continues to go to the Arden Center at UHCW to receive his treatment and continue to control the tumor. “I made great progress but my balance was badly affected so I ended up in a wheelchair for a while during my treatment”, he says. Worse, according to the doctors, his infertility is final.

In a few weeks, Danielle became pregnant, without resorting to in vitro fertilization!

And then, in 2019, our man meets Danielle Taylor, a 31-year-old sports coach. “It was instantaneous, recalls Jonathan. I had completely given up on the idea of meeting someone. But she was really special.” Immediately, he confesses to his sweetheart the illness from which he suffers. “When he told me about his brain tumour, he wanted to discourage me. Except that it made me want to know him even more!”, explains Danielle, also mother of Sophia, 7 years old, and Brody, 5 years old. Crazy in love, the two lovebirds decide to start a family of their own.

As a precaution, Jonathan had made freeze his sperm before his chemotherapy. The couple then undertakes an in vitro fertilization procedure to become parents. And incredible thing, Danielle becomes pregnant without resorting to IVF, in a few weeks! “JJ was born on May 19, 2021. He is a absolute miracle ! It was designed naturally when I was told it would be impossible! I sincerely hope my story will inspire others to stay strong and hopeful.”says the young man of 32 years.

“Despite the chemo, my life is perfect!”

Jonathan is now at the head of his own clothing brand, called No Brainer (“No brainer”), from which he donates part of the proceeds to the association for the fight against brain tumours. “Despite the journey I have undertaken and the 170 sessions of chemotherapy I have had to face, I have never felt better. I feel in great shape and I really enjoy the life of young dad. My life, despite the chemo, is perfect”, he concludes. A nice message from resilience to start the year 2022.
