The AMF tackles greenwashing in sustainable finance

(BFM Bourse) – Aiming to deter “greenwashing”, the Autorité des Marchés Financiers will carry out more checks on the commitments linked to sustainable finance by management companies.

To “strengthen the relevance of Paris’ place in sustainable finance, controls spots will verify this year the respect by management companies of the constraints and commitments “in the matter, warned Wednesday the president of the AMF Robert Ophèle, during his wishes to the press.

It is thus a question of carrying out “short and targeted” controls of the investments of management companies, in order to establish good and bad practices. These reviews will not be carried out from a repressive perspective, but managers must realize that this is a step towards “more demanding supervision”, explained Robert Ophèle.

Their objective will be to “verify the consistency between the contractual commitments”, sometimes resulting from French or European regulations, “and the investments made, as well as the associated control system”. In fine, it is a question of “fighting greenwashing”, that is to say the greening of the facade of investment practices.

“The approaches and definitions are disparate, and the monitoring of achievements can be improved. It is essential that a harmonization effort be implemented to give legibility and credibility to the place in this area”, also underlined the president of the ‘Authority.

Among the other priorities for the year 2022, the AMF is setting itself up to better control the valuation of illiquid assets, after the setbacks of H2O subscribers, or the terms of exit from investments in the securities of unlisted companies. .
