The appointment of an LREM deputy to head a food lobby is controversial

The opposition and Greenpeace are winding up after the appointment of an LREM deputy at the head of the national association of food industries (Ania). This, listed as a lobby, is pinned by the association for the defense of the environment in particular. Indeed, next March, Mickaël Nogal will become number 2 of Ania, announced the association which represents French food companies. “I am very proud and happy to join ANIA to put my experience at the service of the country’s leading industry,” said Mickaël Nogal quoted in the same press release.

“I will not combine the two activities. The day I start at Ania, I will no longer be a deputy,” Mickaël Nogal assured AFP. The latter specified his intention to resign from his duties as deputy for the 4th constituency of Haute-Garonne, without giving a precise timetable. Since the Sapin 2 law of 2016, parliamentarians can no longer exercise the activity of interest representative. The announcement of this future assumption of office made the teeth of Greenpeace France cringe, considering that it was “a nice gift for this lobby, which is one of the most powerful in the sector”. “Merger of La République En Marche and lobbies: episode 529”, the NGO quipped on twitter.

LFI is ironic

“In #Macronie, deputies first obey the lobbies. Then they also become lobbyists,” mocked Manuel Bompard, MEP and campaign manager for the LFI presidential candidate, Jean-Luc Mélenchon. The environmental deputy and spokesperson for Yannick Jadot, Delphine Batho also noted on Twitter that the end of the parliamentary session did not correspond to the end of the term of deputy. Mickaël Nogal told AFP that he had worked in the food industry before his mandate as a deputy and had “moved away from these subjects” since 2017.

“I have always made sure that there was no conflict of interest”, affirmed Mr. Nogal who specialized in the subject “housing” and was co-rapporteur of the Climate Law and 3DS, that – here still being debated in parliament. Mickaël Nogal, who was one of the linchpins of the Youth with Macron, had announced his intention not to stand for La Dépêche du Midi, with a view to the next legislative elections.
