The design of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 could see two major improvements

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 won’t be released until summer 2023, but Samsung is already actively working on it. The South Korean intends to remain the leader in the folding screen smartphone market, and must bring innovation after a Galaxy Z Flip 4 a little behind on the subject. Despite its qualities, Samsung’s latest flip-format smartphone suffers from more or less the same flaws as its predecessor.

Naturally, rumors are rife regarding the future device. The latest information comes from Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultant, often knowledgeable about the market. However, we will take them with a grain of salt.

According to him, two major changes will occur on the new model. First, we should benefit from a much larger external screen than that of previous generations. It evokes a 3.3 or 3.4 inch panel, which marks a real difference with the 1.9 inch diagonal of the Galaxy Z Flip 4.

The interest is obvious: it would allow you to do more things with the smartphone when it is closed. Samsung will therefore have to use this space to offer suitable software features.

The advertised size is quite similar to the external screen of the Oppo Find N2 Flip, which we saw a preview of this week. But the Chinese manufacturer has, it seems, made the choice of a vertical orientation.

We therefore imagine that Samsung is closely following what its competitor is doing, which has already shown its know-how with the first Find N of the name. Model that had particularly seduced us when we got started.

A redesigned hinge

The second change could concern the hinge of the device, and therefore its main screen. Young believes that the latter should “reduce crease” of the slab, largely visible on current models. A good way to prevent small elements from seeping inside…

Once again, a smartphone has already taken the lead. This is indeed already the case with the Huawei P50 Pocket, the distribution of which has remained fairly confidential with us. Once closed, no space is visible, which has no particular impact on the folding of the screen. A small feat that obviously did not go unnoticed in South Korea. Faced with competition that should intensify in 2023 in the field of folding smartphones, and given the growing interest of the public, Samsung could therefore choose to shake up its habits.
