The fascination of rugby – a team spirit that ultimately infects everyone

What is still considered a fringe sport in Austria is very popular in other parts of the world such as Great Britain, Australia and Canada. And that is exactly what defines the spirit of the game: “No matter where in the world, you are part of a big family,” says Josef “Joe” Lagler, chairman of the Spartans from Melk. In order to get more people across the country interested in sport in the future, training has been taking place every Tuesday at the Lower Austria Sports Center in St. Pölten since September 12th. “We want to make rugby better known in this country,” explains Joe during training with the “Krone”. And off we go: whether it’s a “crush”, a “push” or a “lift”.
