The stamps with the image of Charles III were put on sale Tuesday by the British postal group Royal Mail, a month before the coronation ceremony of the monarch. The portrait of the king, who came to the throne in September after the death of his mother, will now appear on all new stamps printed.
The new stamps are currently available online exclusively. Existing Queen Elizabeth II stamps will remain on sale until supplies run out. The image is an adapted version of the portrait created by sculptor Martin Jennings for Royal Mint, the body responsible for minting British coinage. The king shows his left profile, as has been the practice since the first stamp printed with the image of Queen Victoria in 1840. The first coins bearing the image of Charles III came into circulation at the beginning of December. The first banknotes with the portrait of the monarch were unveiled at the end of December by the Bank of England and will enter circulation in mid-2024 in the United Kingdom.
