the foldable smartphone that puts everything on the photo

OnePlus has just unveiled its brand new smartphone: the Open. Its particularity is to adopt the Fold format, therefore a screen which folds on the inside with a secondary panel on the outside. Even more, the terminal wants to focus on photos, the weak point of the format. It will be available in France at a price of around 2000 euros.

It’s a terminal that’s been a long wait but here it is now official: the OnePlus Open. This is the foldable smartphone from the Oppo subsidiary which promises a solid photo part, unlike the competition in this format.

The Open is a Fold format phone. It has a large 7.8-inch interior screen which folds in its center like a book, but also has an exterior panel of 6.3 inches. The latter adopts a “classic” smartphone format with a 20:9 ratio. In the chassis we find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and a 4805 mAh battery compatible with 67 Watt fast charging. Everything you need, where you need it.

The OnePlus Open focuses on photography

On the design side, OnePlus claims to sell the thinnest foldable smartphone on the market in France… and it’s true. If the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 and the Honor Magic V2 are thinner, they are reserved for China. The OnePlus Open is only 5.8mm unfolded and 11.7mm folded. This does not take into account the huge photo module which sits at the back and which gives it a very imposing appearance.

Photography has always been the format’s weak point, just look at Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold range. OnePlus wants to correct this pitfall with a module that is desirable on paper. Three sensors, with a wide angle of 48 megapixels, an ultra wide angle of 48 megapixels as well and a telephoto lens of 64 megapixels. However, we must remain vigilant on this point, we know that OnePlus is far from being the best in the photography segment.

OnePlus Open

Finally, let us point out that the OnePlus Open runs Android 13 with Oxygen OS 13.2 ROM. The latter wants to adapt perfectly to the format with an interface that takes into account the folding of the screen.

The OnePlus Open will be available in France from October 26 for 1849 euros. A consistent price for the format, but which still leaves a bitter taste. There was a time when OnePlus was known for offering high-end smartphones at a price much lower than the competition, but that’s no longer the case. Note that the terminal will only be sold on the manufacturer’s official store. If you want to know what this new competitor to the Galaxy Z Fold has in its belly, our full test is already online!
