The key to Ethereum’s supremacy: what if ETH was unstoppable?

Developers, armed forces of blockchains – Certainly, the fact that the Ethereum (ETH) project has been relatively installed in the cryptosphere for some time – july 2015 – no doubt helped its predominance. But his secret is hidden elsewhere. Indeed, the network founded by Vitalik Buterin is the one that has by far the most developers …

An army of 4,000 developers at the service of Ethereum

The blockchain analysis company Electric Capital recently published a student report Development within the cryptocurrency sector, which will shape the future Web 3.0.

the number of developers working on blockchains has thus exploded again during the year 2021. This number had not increased as strongly since the previous one bull run cryptos at the end of 2017 / beginning of 2018. According to the latest figures from Electric Capital, 18,416 developers would work on what is considered the future of the Internet.

Among these developers, more than 4000 of them (nearly 22%) work in the network environment Ethereum. To give a first order of comparison, the ecosystem of Bitcoin (BTC) only counts 680 backers monthly to its code.

Competitive networks that start off strong

But the two most capitalized cryptos in the market have recently seen a strong competition come from blockchain projects that are sometimes much younger.

We learn that Polkadot (DOT) would have more than 1,500 developers active in its ecosystem, and that the projects Cosmos (ATOM) and Solana (SOL) would reach the 1,000 backers.

As you might expect, the decentralized finance (DeFi) is one of the most popular sectors for developers. In 2021, those who work there full time increased + 64%, to exceed the 1,000 developers in this area alone.

And if we look at all the developers, including those who do not work only partially on DeFi, the figures are even more important: + 76%, which represents today 2,571 backers monthly assets, spread over the different blockchains at smart contracts.

Despite strong competition from its rivals, Ethereum is keeping a clear head start in terms of developing its network. If the transition from its blockchain to Proof of Stake (PoS) does indeed arrive this year 2022, the project led by Vitalik Buterin has a good chance of staying in the lead for a long time.
