The National Assembly rejects the left’s motion of censure

PARIS, February 5 (Reuters) – The National Assembly unsurprisingly rejected on Monday the first motion of censure tabled by the left-wing opposition against the new Prime Minister, Gabriel Attal.

Left-wing deputies criticized him for not having requested a vote of confidence, like his predecessor Elisabeth Borne, after her general policy speech last week.

The text tabled by La France insoumise, ecologists and communists gathered 124 votes, while a majority of 289 votes is necessary to bring down the government.

“To free oneself from the vote of confidence is to choose to deviate from the fundamental principles of a parliamentary democracy,” accused the left in its text. (Written by Kate Entringer)
