Nvidia did mention the GeForce 3090 Ti during CES 2022. But it was a very quick announcement … luckily, we have a few things while we wait for the rest of the technical data.
We can not say that we did not know the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, the graphics card from Nvidia has been the subject of many articles for several months. It is the spearhead of the RTX 30 generation, one of the last big cards of the Ampere era. It can be defined as the ultimate weapon for a wealthy gamer, but it also positions itself very well as a solution for studio use.
The flagship of Nvidia
Alongside the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, Nvidia has therefore just made the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti official. Note that Nvidia has communicated few details on RTX 3090 Ti, technical details will be given later in January. Nevertheless, some figures have been communicated.
What we do know is that it is the same graphics chip, the GA102, as the GeForce RTX 3080. The only difference is that the number of active compute units is significantly increased: 10,752 compute units classic CUDA (10,496 units on the GeForce RTX 3090), 336 Tensor units dedicated to AI (instead of 328) and 84 units accelerating ray tracing rendering (instead of 82).

Going to 10,752 computing units means that we have reached the limits of the capacities offered by the graphics chip. On the RTX 3090, RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3080, Nvidia disables compute units, including units lost in the event of a bad burn. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 Ti will therefore be significantly more expensive than any other card from Nvidia.
The on-board graphics memory is also doped with no less than 24 GB GDDR6X at 21 Gbps (against 19.5 Gbps for the RTX 3090). With a bandwidth of 1 TB / s and the 384-bit memory bus, this gives 7.7% more than the RTX 3090. On the frequency side, the card would run at 1560/1860 MHz, against 1395/1695 MHz for the RTX 3090, so 10% better than the RTX 3090.
With a higher memory frequency and a thermal envelope increased by 100 Watts, more calculation units… The RTX 3090 Ti will not be cheap. Nvidia has promised to come back with all the details in January, including the selling price.
