The perfect light for applying makeup

None of us like to be in the dark. Especially not when applying makeup. We reveal how you can put yourself in the perfect light.

If you are one of those people who have had to put on make-up in the semi-dark, then you know: it won't end well. Logically, without the right light we cannot see what we are actually brushing on our face and what we should perhaps have brushed on. No more, because we will tell you in which light it is best to put on make-up – no matter where you are!

The perfect beauty light

There are generally three colors of light – warm light, neutral light and daylight. Each has its advantages and disadvantages, but not all are suitable for makeup. When it comes to makeup, of course we want the colors to be distorted as little as possible. Daylight is of course made for this. Make-up artist Serena Goldenbaum explains this in an interview with ELLE.

Bathroom lamps are often warm in tone to create a cozy atmosphere – just like ceiling lamps. So they tend to ensure that in the end (when in doubt) we look worse than better.

Of course we cannot wait until it is light every day before we put our make-up on. That is why it is definitely worth investing in a special make-up light. These can usually be attached to the mirror with a suction cup and you're ready to go. You should make sure that the value is between 5500 and 6500 Kelvin.

A pioneer when it comes to make-up lights is, for example, My Beautylight from "The Lion's Den". But there are also mirrors with lights attached to the frame or standing mirrors with integrated light, for example from Simple Human. It is only important that the light shines evenly and preferably from the front on your face – and not from below or above. This way you make sure that no shadows fall on your face. This could mean, for example, that you can suddenly see shadows under the eyes in the light, but they are actually not there. The end of the story: You put way too much product on. And that's exactly what we want to prevent.

By the way: If you have a dressing table, it is best to place it in front of a window. So you can put on your make-up in natural daylight, at least in summer and on weekends. Because that still works best.
