Average air ticket prices on routes between mainland France and overseas jumped 13.5% in March year-on-year, while remaining overall below 2019 levels, according to official figures released on Thursday. .
“The first quarter of 2022 ends with air ticket prices from France up 6.1% compared to March 2021, all destinations combinedaccording to the Air Passenger Transport Price Index (IPTAP) published by the government.

This increase, which comes in a context of gradual resumption of air transport after the health crisis, inflation and the conflict in Ukraine which boosted oil prices, hides strong disparities. In effect, “on departure from mainland France, prices increased by 1.0% on the domestic network and 6.2% on the international network compared to March 2021“, according to the Ministry of Ecological Transition which publishes the IPTAP every month. And in detail, the virtual stability of fares between French destinations is the consequence of very contrasting situations between “a substantial drop in ticket prices on intra-metropolitan routes (-8.3%) and a sharp increase on the Métropole-Outre-mer network (+13.5%)“.
Particularly marked from Reunion
The trend is even more marked on departure from the overseas departments: an increase in the price of plane ticketsparticularly significant with rates up 14.3%over a year, notes the ministry. “This trend affects the four departments but it is again from Reunion that prices show the highest increases, both on intra-OM routes and to mainland France (+30%).“, according to the same source.
