The game has already been confirmed for Meta Quest 2, Oculus Rift and Oculus Rift Sbut players on PS4 and PlayStation 5 will not be forgotten.

During the State of Play of this night, we were indeed treated to a new trailer of The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution, which will be released on the PlayStation VR2 of the PS5, in 2023 only, but also on the PSVR of the PS4 from the end of 2022. Alexander Eden, Marketing Specialist at Skydance Interactivespeaks on the blog playstation to talk about the new features of this title:

A whole new arsenal

The very first image revealed when Saints & Sinners was announced was of an axe, representing one of the many weapons that players would be able to use to draw blood. Retribution is not changing the formula and has inflamed the community by unveiling the brutal image of a bloody chainsaw. Physics-based combat and the wide variety of weapons available are among the strong points of Saints & Sinners and this Chapter 2 intends to take the brutality of the confrontations up a notch. The equipment you will recover are not simple variations of already existing weapons, but have been specifically designed to offer you new combat techniques previously absent from the game.

New additions to your arsenal include silencers to help keep you undetected, new firearms, such as the submachine gun and sawed-off shotgun for greater control during wave attacks, and ‘a chainsaw to shred anything in your path (provided you support its not insignificant weight and remember to fill its tank). And these are just a few examples of the additions that Chapter 2 will bring, so be sure to watch our next announcements if you want to know how much your enemies will have to worry about.

new threats

Previously hinted at in Aftershocks and unveiled in our latest trailer, the mysterious ax killer is just one of many disruptive elements with which Retribution aims to unexpectedly rekindle the sense of fear and urgency among players. .

Along with the growing threat posed by this post-apocalyptic killer, whose actions and machinations throughout the campaign will leave you constantly on your toes, expect to face ever-increasing numbers of walkers and come up against fearsome and armed to the teeth survivors through even more difficult confrontations. So many dangers which, skilfully incorporated into engaging missions, will give rise to tense encounters that will mark the spirits.

New Orleans by night

One of the big new additions to the original gameplay loop is the addition of nighttime expeditions across the city. With this chapter 2, we wanted to offer a larger and more immersive New Orleans than ever. This is why it will be possible to explore each area, old and new, after the bells have rung and the undead have taken possession of the place. While exploration at night carries more risk, it comes with new gameplay opportunities, but also great rewards.

The darkness will allow you to hide more easily and you will therefore have every interest in being discreet so as not to be detected by walkers. You can even steer them away from your destination by luring them somewhere else with flares. Some items, such as survival kits abandoned by their owners in a last attempt to escape, can only be found at night. One more reason to take on New Orleans nightlife. But be careful, in the dark, you are more likely to accidentally come across a gigantic horde of undead…

The devil is in the details

Behind every notable gameplay change introduced in Retribution are dozens of small tweaks meant to enhance the sense of immersion.

Stalkers are the perfect example of this, with the smallest of details being of paramount importance to give even more impact to this ever-present threat. We’ve increased the level of detail in the visual characteristics and the number of combinations to ensure that none of the walkers you fight look like the previous one.

To adapt to the new weapons available, we imagined new ways in which the rangers’ bodies react to different types of damage. Each hit has more impact and feels more realistic. Finally, we have designed new animations so that the rangers react more and more faithfully to their environment (for example when they fall into the void). All of these little improvements add up to make the Retribution universe even more authentic.

The future of virtual reality

Chapter 2: Retribution intends to establish itself as a benchmark for VR horror games and continue to thrill players with the same intensity as Chapter 1 of The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners did. The power and even more immersive features offered by PS VR2 will allow players to enjoy even more striking graphics, more precise motion detection and even larger and more detailed levels.

Fans of virtual undead will therefore be delighted to discover The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution on playstation in the coming months !
