The Witcher 3 director opens Rebel Wolves studio, plans AAA dark fantasy RPG

A few months after the release of Cyberpunk 2077whereas CD Project Red was in the midst of a media turmoil, we learned that the director of The Witcher 3, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, had left the studio following accusations of intimidation. After an investigation, the person concerned had been declared not guilty, but had all the same wished to leave the studio, declaring that he wanted to work on himself to improve, in order to no longer cause harm to his teams. It is now bouncing back with new partners and today announces the creation of a new studio, Rebel Wolves.

The rebels of CD Projekt?

Konrad Tomaszkiewicz notably spoke with GamesIndustry.biz to give more details on the creation of this new studio. Unsurprisingly, we find in the team many people who have worked at CD Projekt in the pastwhether on the series The Witcher Where Cyberpunk 2077and even thronebreakerwhile other artists worked on Shadow Warrior 2.

Behind this name hides a thirst for RPGs, and that’s why we learn that Rebel Wolves is currently at work on a AAA RPG, in a dark fantasy universe, which will be designed on the Unreal Engine 5 engine. It will take place in a whole new universe, and would be centered on its history, with a planned release on PC and next-gen consoles.

Regarding the tone of this new game, he says:

We want to recreate the feeling of paper role-playing sessions, where the options are limitless, where the world reacts to your choices, where every decision matters. »

Despite the ambition of this project, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz specifies that the spirit of the studio will want to be independent, while declaring that it has learned from its mistakes. He is pointing out that ” the team will always be priority » in relation to the game, and wants to make many talents want to join them, without aiming for the size of a large studio. With a dozen active employees at the moment, Rebel Wolves wants to grow to 80 talents over the next few years.

And when asked if he’s interested in NFTs, he says, ” It’s really simple. We won’t have any in our games. Never. »

So here is a new studio to follow very closely, which will probably only give news in a few years. Moreover, we discover a first promotional image for the creation of the studioseen below.
