The Witcher 4 has one of its talents stolen, the competition will be tough

A departure is always a little sad, especially when it concerns one of the most popular video game studios, in this case the fathers of The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077. Explanations

A new studio is getting serious attention. This is Rebel Wolves. For the record, Rebel Wolves is a video game development studio formed by industry veterans having worked on acclaimed titles like The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. Currently, the team is focused on creating a dark fantasy narrative for PC and consoles, developed with Unreal Engine 5. The studio, based in Warsaw, advocates a team-centric approach and a healthy, crunch-free working environment, offering flexible and remote working options . Their goal is to develop innovative games that will mark the history of the RPG genre. At least that’s the plan.

The minds behind The Witcher come together

In this specific context, the video game industry is in turmoil with the recent departure of Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, former developer at CD Projekt RED, to the Rebel Wolves studio where he will occupy the position of creative director. Tomaszkiewicz, known for his work as lead quest designer on Cyberpunk 2077, brings with him a wealth of experience from his previous collaborations on titles such as Gwent: The Witcher Card Game and Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, where he served as a game director, as well as on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. This is clearly not a new kid.

A beautiful project

At Rebel Wolves, he will therefore find several of his former colleagues from CD Projekt RED and will participate in the development of a new RPG. Tomaszkiewicz is committed to creating a world that will inspire players to explore it in depth and tell stories that will make them care about the characters. He explains in detail:

For me, nothing beats being able to fully immerse myself and experience hand-crafted stories and worlds. These days there are so many fantasy RPGs, but I think there is not only room but also a desire among gamers for more compelling stories. That’s why I’m very excited to join my old friends and meet new ones at Rebel Wolves as Creative Director. Our goal is to create the RPG that we would like to play ourselves.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for this new dark fantasy RPG. We know the significant impact of The Witcher 3 in the history of RPGs. Now imagine if the next big thing was this project, and not The Witcher 4, which is also in development. Anything is possible in this constantly evolving field.
